Discussion & Documentation:
Johann Mathias Machleit and his wife Dorothea arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Engel Rafail under the command of Skipper Konstadt.

Mathaeus Machaley [sic] and his wife Rosina are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Mattias Machleit and his wife Anna Rosina are recorded on the 1767 census of Yagodnaya Polyana in Household No. 36 along with the single Martin Ludwig. They had settled in Yagodnaya Polyana on 16 September 1767. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Machleit and Ludwig families.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Mathias Mahleit was a miller from the German region of Dessau. The 1767 census records that he was a farmer from the German village of Rudolstadt.
